Polaris Alpha Awarded $18 Million U.S. Army Telecommunications Task Order Contract
Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, February 20, 2018 — Polaris Alpha has been awarded an $18 million task order contract from the U.S. Army to provide advanced telecommunications equipment and services in the Middle East. The work, to be done over three years, will specifically support the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF–OIR), based in Kuwait.
Under terms of the contract – called Microwave Line of Sight (MLoS) Integration, but more commonly referred to as RoMaN (Rapid MLoS Network) — Polaris Alpha will provide Microwave Line of Sight (MLoS) capabilities for communication and data services across multiple networks. The company will also maintain and enhance the system’s capabilities to be as effective and reliable as possible, in response to requirements that support operations within service, joint, interagency, and coalition environments.
The work ensures that warfighters have immediate access to telecommunications and network infrastructure across the battlefield in a highly mobile setting. RoMaN offers a standardized communications backbone in support of rapid data delivery. It runs on state-of-the-art, low-cost equipment built to establish and maintain communications independent of physical location. Additionally, RoMaN fully integrates with existing theater, FOB, and WIN-T-provided networks to accommodate current equipment groupings. RoMan is also reusable, flexible, and highly mobile architecture for economical and effective mission repurposing.
“This task order will provide the longest range, highest capacity, rapidly deployable communications systems in contingency environments. RoMaN is changing the deployed communication landscape, particularly in which coalition forces cannot wait for fiber to be installed and are constantly on the move,” said Steven J. Raymond, director, Field Service Support Division, Polaris Alpha. “RoMaN offers a high-bandwidth, low-latency reliable solution at a much lower cost than traditional systems.”
The work will be performed by Polaris Alpha’s Global Technical & Operations Support Directorate, out of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
